Working hours of work

The Employment Act in Malaysia provides clear guidelines regarding working hours to safeguard the well-being of employees.

The term 'working hours' refers to the laws regulating the number of hours an employee can work in a given day, week, month, or year. According to the act:

  • Working hours are not more than 5 consecutive hours with not less than 30 minutes rest time
  • Not more than 8 working hours per day
  • Not more than 45 hours per week for full-time employees, 32 hours per week for part-time employee
  • Rest day is required for every 6 working days
